Cooked, swam, ran, ate chocolate.

Ended up not being very well last week so all exercise put on hold and two days off work.  Back to it this week; walks with the grandkids over the weekend.

Monday had my swimming lesson;  back and forth across the width of the pool with a float or a noodle. Managed just over half a width in a sort of extended doggie paddle; two steps forwards, one step back. Feels like it’s taking forever for me to get this swimming lark and I am getting a bit fed up. I’ve paid so much out it would be a shame to stop now,  wonder how much more I have to spend before I manage a width!

Went for a 3 mile walk/run around our local canal in the evening, forgot my inhaler and had to walk quite a bit. I was still red and puffed  so hopefully did me some good.


Chickpea and spinach curry with wholewheat rice for tea.



1 large onion chopped.

1 clove of garlic crushed.

Large potato peeled and chopped into small chunks.

Large tin of chopped tomatoes.

Tin of chickpeas drained.

300ml water.

2 tablespoons of curry paste.

As much spinach as you can put into it.

Fry the onions and garlic until softened. Add the tomatoes, potato, chickpeas, water  and curry paste. Simmer for 20 minutes.  Then add as much spinach  as you can. Simmer for a further 2 minutes.

Really easy and hardly any calories 💃

Then went a bit mad and did 3 fifteen second planks and ate two squares of dark, dark chocolate. 😀

I want to do this!

Okay, so my son, Jack, ran the Manchester 10K. He moved up there from Cornwall and I miss him like mad. After the race he rang me, buzzing with excitement , pleased with achieving a time of 49.29 seconds.

“You should do it next year, Mum,” he said. “I’d love you to do it with me.”

“I’d love to,” I say………………

I’m 52, over weight and unfit. I have been trying to improve but it is difficult to stay motivated so that’s what this blog is all about; logging my exercise, my food and anything else that will hopefully keep me on track to run that Manchester 10K with my son next year.



Today it was swimming lessons (not that this is me after swimming!)

I’ve been having private swimming lessons for the last five months. I was quite scared of the water after having two frightening experiences as a child; one where I was pushed into a swimming pool by a friend who thought I could swim (he jumped in and saved me once he realised) and the other while I was in the sea with my dad.

I can’t say I’m coming on in leaps and bounds, it’s more like two steps forward and one step back.  However, I am now managing half a width doing a sort of stretched out doggy paddle!  For me, it’s a long way from where I started.  I can’t say I’m enjoying it and it’s expensive at £11.50 for 30 minutes, but I am determined and will keep going until I can swim a width in a decent manner.

The added bonus is that it’s exercise and is improving my fitness levels.

I normally go to Zumba on a Monday evening but I’ve had a terrible headache  all day, fell asleep and missed the class!

Am I lapsing already?
